I'm a writer, reader, lover, and reviewer of comics. Also write screenplays. Currently attempting to bring my writing to life through Daz Studio and a few other programs that I'm learning to use.

I've had one short story Published in the anthology "Blister", and one short screenplay optioned by two different directors (and not filmed by either). My comic Steel Rising was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Small Press Idol contest and I'm planning to relaunch it with art made in Daz Studio. I'm also about to start writing a new feature, which will be the first full length script I've written since college.
Interests
A few years ago when I first started getting serious about writing comics, I would post an ad on various forums looking for an artist to collaborate with and I'd get 20-30 responses. And at least half of those would be really good, where it would be a tough choice of who I wanted to work with.

I got one short script completed and published this way, and found my entire Steel Rising art team this way.

Now I set aside my big projects for a months and started working on short scripts again, hoping to get some more stuff published in anthologies and build up my portfolio some more.  I've posted an ad in 4 different places over the past 3 weeks, and have gotten a total of 3 responses.  And only one of them was legitimate, the other two were spammers. And I haven't gotten any this time, but there's also the usual ones asking for $25/page with art that looks like something my 5 year old drew.

So what's going on?  Did I do something to piss the world off?  Is every artist on the internet published, paid, and working for Marvel?  Where are the people who make comics because they love to make comics, who want to build up some work, get some experience, and hopefully get published?

I'm not asking for someone to draw a 200 page graphic novel for free, I'm just trying to find someone to work on a 5-10 page short with a specific anthology in mind for submission, where I actually happen to know the editor (I reviewed some of his work in the past) and have a good chance of getting accepted.

So artists, writers, everyone, give me some thoughts here.  Am I missing something?  Was there some major change that I'm not considering(maybe the digital age of self-publishing?) I know everyone wants to get paid for their work, I understand that and I'd love for the same.  But not everyone is getting paid right now, so if you're an artist and you're not doing paid work, then why not do some stuff to get published and get your name out there?

Thanks for the watch also! It looks like you've jumped into the Reality pool. Welcome!
Any plans to do your comic idea with said tools?

You have some great work to watch! I've spent my morning adding all the awesomeness I'm finding in the Reality Render thread at the Daz forums.

<<Any plans to do your comic idea with said tools?>> That's the exact plan. I have designs for two of the characters here in my gallery and I'm working on recreating the hand drawn cover image that's also posted there .

Thank you very much! Doing a comic/graphic novel is precisely how I ended up finding Daz, and subsequently Reality, a few years back.
I too write for hobby (and, perhaps, will one day make some money! :D) and wanted to convert one of my novels to a more cinematic theme as I love good film noir, and select features of varying subjects. It's a lot of work for a one guy studio but it can be done.
I'll be looking forward to seeing you progress!

Ah, it just popped into my head. There's a fellow here on DA that has a stupendous comic going that he makes in Poser. IamUman I think is his handle. Definitely worth a look!

Sorry, one more thing I remembered. Have you checked out Amazon Studios? They've got an indy thing going but they're throwing some serious cash at screenplays and movie ideas.

Your writing is pretty awesome. I like the film script style scripts you have. When I finish this indie book I'm illustrating I'd like to try one of yours out just to help diversify my portfolio. thanks for the watch by the way
